Saint-Jean Beach

This magnificient bay is fringed with two white sand beaches protected by coral reef. The waters are calm, perfect for swimming and children. When the winds are up, the waters are dotted with windsurfers. The town of St. Jean is considered the touristic center of the island with five small shopping centers along the main raod leading towards Lorient. La Savanne (across from the airport), Les Galeries du Commerce with its boutiques, post office and gas station, La Villa Créole, La Sodexa, and L'Espace Neptune. Shopping for fine products at duty free prices is one of the island's advantages. Across from the landing strip, you will notice the cemetery, so pretty wich the St Barth people take great care in maintaining. Further down, on the right, is a turn off for the great pond which is ecologically classifed as "Biotop", thereby protecting the wild-life that lives there. Don't forget your binocular so as to better observe the plovers, herons, ducks, moorhins, etc. Let's now head towards Anse des Cayes. Don't miss the chance to sand on the great hill above the airport, known as La Tourmente, and snap a photo of en oncoming plane. Yes, it's perfectly normal to duck your head as the plane approaches.
