Corossol Beach

This is a traditional fishermen's village, the most typically Antillian on the island where tradition has has been preserved. The tiny Creole "cazes" are cheerfully painted in bright tropical colors. Perhaps you have already noticed that two types of "cazes" exist on St. Barth : "les cazes à vent" are made to resist hurricanes while"les cazes Creoles" are made to encourage more ventilation and provide shade. Here in Corossol, the cazes are made of wood. As on many other islands, the kitchen is a structure apart from the rest of the house. Creativity is a must in order to arrange one's supplies in the miniscule space. Often the "cazes" are reminiscent of a doll's house, though this does not prevent entire families from living in these small spaces, sometimes in only one room... Perhaps, you will have the chance to see one of the St. Barth women traditionelly dressed in their white hats known as a "quichenotte". These women are largely reponsible for the island's local handicraft such as the straw bags, hats, delicate placemats, etc. The village also boasts the Inter-Ocean Museum housing one of the largest collections of seashells in the world. Corossol is a port of call for local fishermen with traditional boats ; the waters are calm making it a perfect beach for families, and ideal for sunsets.
